The Instant Pot makes foolproof rice. The key is the 1:1 ratio and proper rinsing—this method works for white rice every time.

The Basic Method

Ratio: 1:1 rice to water by weight or volume

Steps:

  1. Rinse the rice in cold water until it runs clear (usually 3-4 rinses)
  2. Add equal parts rice and water to the pot
  3. Seal the lid and set valve to sealing position
  4. Cook on Manual/Pressure Cook HIGH for 3-4 minutes
  5. Natural release for 10-15 minutes, then quick release remaining pressure
  6. Fluff with a fork before serving

Tips for Perfect Rice

  • Rinsing is essential: Removes excess starch that causes gummy texture
  • Don't open early: Let the natural release do its work
  • Rest after opening: A few minutes of resting improves texture
  • Scale proportionally: Double the rice, double the water
