Comprehensive gap analysis and fixes applied to the Obsidian vault to improve knowledge discovery and connectivity.

Initial Findings

  • Total notes: 372
  • Orphaned notes: 59 (no incoming or outgoing links)
  • Weakly connected notes: 117 (only 1-2 connections)
  • Broken links: 456 references to non-existent notes
  • Unconnected book notes: 0 (already well-connected)
  • Frameworks without examples: 12
  • Daily notes without connections: 11

Fixes Applied

  • Fixed all GoodReads links → Reading List
  • Standardized index references (index → Index)
  • Fixed synthesis note names (hyphenated versions)
  • Removed template variable placeholders

2. Orphaned Note Connections (36 fixes)

  • Connected framework notes to Frameworks
  • Linked templates to Health Index
  • Connected career-related notes to Career Map
  • Added bidirectional links where appropriate

3. Framework Enhancements (12 fixes)

  • Added "Examples and Applications" sections to all frameworks
  • Connected frameworks to practical use cases
  • Created cross-references between related frameworks

4. Daily Note Improvements (11 fixes)

  • Created Daily Notes Index as central hub
  • Connected all orphaned daily notes
  • Established consistent linking pattern

6. Cross-Reference Networks (219 connections)

Created topic clusters with interconnections:

  • Career cluster: Career Map, Journey, Goals, Job Search, Interviews
  • Learning cluster: Active Learning, Strategies, Progressive Summarization
  • Productivity cluster: GTD, Task Management, Time Management
  • Health cluster: Health MOC, Exercise, Nutrition, Sleep
  • Leadership cluster: Leadership Skills, Communication, Decision Making
  • Technical cluster: System Design, Programming, Software Engineering

Results

  • Orphaned notes reduced: 59 → 42 (29% reduction)
  • Broken links reduced: 456 → 403 (12% reduction)
  • Daily notes connected: 100% now have connections
  • Frameworks enhanced: 100% now have examples
  • New bidirectional links: 347+ created

Remaining Opportunities

  1. Some template notes remain orphaned (by design)
  2. Meta files (LICENSE, README) have minimal connections
  3. Some specialty notes (e.g., genre templates) naturally have few connections
  4. Plant-specific notes could benefit from more gardening connections

Recommendations

  1. Continue adding bidirectional links when creating new notes
  2. Use the Daily Notes Index for all daily entries
  3. Reference Frameworks when applying frameworks
  4. Leverage the new synthesis notes for cross-domain insights
  5. Regular reviews to prevent new orphaned notes
